ISBN 9781846822193, €50.00 hb. On the grey rock of Cashel the mind’s eye Has called up the cold spirits ... During the past decade the international ‘mind’s eye’ has settled on two aspects of Irish archaeology in particular: the amazing results of the Discovery Programme and the controversies over the route of the new M3 through the centre of County Meath. This volume, from a conference at the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2009 is on the one hand a discussion of new work – much done under the Discovery Programme – and, on the other an academic reaction to the landscape issues raised by the line of the new motorway. Partly because of the quality of insight resulting from the Discovery Programme’s work at Tara, archaeological debate surrounding the M3 was much more subtle than a mere concern for the monuments affected by the road-line and the associated mitigation strategy. Indeed discussion about the M3 was not really about archaeological mitigation http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Landscapes Taylor & Francis
