Jacqueline Andall states that the aim of this collection of essays is to ‘give ethnic minority women greater visibility within the European context and to consider the relationship between gender and ethnicity from a number of thematic perspectives’ (p. 1). With this in mind, the collection attempts to tackle neglected tensions between gender, ethnicity and class in European Union countries and to provide the more detailed understandings of these tensions that are needed in refuting old stereotypes of women, migration and ethnicity. The majority of the contributions to this collection provide new and engaging material from researchers who present case studies on migration. The contributions to the book consider gender and ethnicity from four main thematic perspectives: the feminisation of migration; the political mobilisation of ethnic minority women; gender, ethnicity and Islam; and ethnicity and identity. The book consists of ten chapters divided into four sections according to these themes.
