Child migration REPORT ON VICTORIAN COUNCIL FOR SOCIAL SERVICE Ewt:;rgency Housing Areas: Surveys were made of the camp at Watsonia and at Lorimer street, concerning the need for social services in those new areas, and the recommendations that resulted were favour ably received by Housing Commission, Health Department, National Fitness Council and the governmental and voluntary organizations concerned. Shortage of personnel has been the main hindrance to implementation of the proposals by those bodies. Ex Service Survey: Forty organizations completed and returned this survey, and the report is ready for the Executive Committee's con sideration. Social workers would be interested in the varied suggestions for extensions of services and needs for new ones. pre-School Staff: As many organizations were concerned about the shortage of trained staffs, a conference was called on 30th March at which thirty-two groups in this sphere of work were represented. From that conference and the work of a Committee elected by it and approved by th~s Council as one of its Standing Committees, a report has resulted a~ recommendations on which the Council hbpes to act promptly. Journal: The Council needs one, and is exploring the possibility of sharing with the N.S.W. Council their "Social Service."
