Conference of the Australian Association of Hospital Almoners The Australian Association of Hospital Almoners held a conference in ~elbourne on 29th January and 30th January which was attended by Victorian members, seven members from South Australia and two delegates from N.S.W. Reports and good wishes for the conference were received from members in Queensland, Tas~nia and Western Australia. On Saturday evening the Victorian Branch of the Association entertained 70 members and guests at a dinner at which the guest speaker was Major-General Xingsley Norris, whose subject was Social Medicine. In his address the speaker emphasised that medicine and social medicine could not be separated and that to treat a patient successfully the doctor needed e knowledge of the patient's background, his habits, his home and his interests. The speaker also reminded his listeners that the medical services of this country were of a high standard when compared with other countries, and this was something of which we might well be proud when we considered that we had only 150 years of growth behind us.
