Summary G. Fabres. — Contribution to the study of Aphytis cochereaui and A. lepidosaphes (Hym. Aphelinidae) purple scale parasites in New Caledonia. Two Aphytis species develop upon Lepidosaphes beckii in New Caledonia. A. lepidosaphes is at present the only efficient parasite against the purple scale. It has been accidentaly introduced in the island a now competes with an endemic species: A. cochereaui. This species shows biological caracteristics and appears very different from A. lepidosaphes: the female parasite oviposits exclusively on laying eggs scale females, it feeds on scale males, it lays only one egg per scale among the eggs of the scale, the young larva feeds on the scale eggs, life cycle long, low fecondity. A. cochereaui seems to be a good competitor but may be used associated with A. lepidosaphes in places where the later fails to be efficient taking in account some qualities: resistance to dry climatic conditions and maintenance of the parasite population on low host density.
