SUMMARY Descamps, M. & Amedegnato C.: Acridoidea of Colombia. (Missions M. Descamps). III. Diagnoses of Catantopinae (sensu lato). The essentially arbitrary character of the subfamily Catantopinae, which includes 57.4 per cent of all known South American acridoids, becomes apparent when ♂ and ♀ genitalia and morphological characters of the neotropical genera are studied. At least five more subfamilies have been worked out by the authors who propose to describe them in a future publication. The present study is centred on descriptions of the new genera represented in the available material. It consists of 20 generic and 26 specific diagnoses. The description of the morphology and genitalia of those genera which are not considered as belonging to the subfamily Catantopinae (sensu stricto) is followed in every case by considerations on their affinities and a key to the known species.
