Diagnoses of Catantopinae (sensu lato). The essentially arbitrary character of the subfamily Catantopinae, which includes 57.4 per cent of all known South American acridoids, becomes apparent when ♂ and ♀ genitalia and morphological characters of the neotropical genera are studied.
