CYBERCITIES OF ASIA: MEASURING GLOBALIZATION USING HYPERLINKS (ASIAN CITIES AND HYPERLINKS)

CYBERCITIES OF ASIA: MEASURING GLOBALIZATION USING HYPERLINKS (ASIAN CITIES AND HYPERLINKS) Abstract This paper measures globalization of Asia's cities, by examining the hyperlinks or URL references to websites of Asian cities with more than 750,000 population. Measuring a variety of URL characteristics, the study finds that Singapore and Hong Kong are the overwhelmingly dominant cybercities in such measures as hyperlinks, links between Asian cities, links with non-Asian cities, hyperlink per capita ratios, and others, followed by Tokyo, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Delhi, and other key Asian cities. A composite classification reveals four classes of Asian cybercities, led by Hong Kong and Singapore. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Asian Geographer Taylor & Francis
