DECOMPOSITION OF REGIONAL INEQUALITIES IN JIANGSU SINCE 1978

DECOMPOSITION OF REGIONAL INEQUALITIES IN JIANGSU SINCE 1978 Abstract China has experienced rapid economic development since 1978. However, regional inequality not only exists at various spatial levels, but also is quite significant. This paper examines regional inequalities at various spatial levels in Jiangsu Province in terms of economic indicators. Geographically, Jiangsu province can be divided into three regions. One important question is whether the overall uneven development is mainly the result of inter- or intra-regional disparities. The paper found that intra-regional disparities, especially in southern Jiangsu, have decreased while interregional disparity has increased from 1979 to 1995 and become the main contributor of the overall regional inequality in Jiangsu since 1992. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Asian Geographer Taylor & Francis
