Numerous other similar narrations establish that out of sight is not always out of mind. The book rightly boasts of being the first partition study to include both East and West Punjab in its ambit. It has successfully achieved the mammoth task of investigating the whole process from all possible dimensions. However, the strength of this book remains also a weakness in some ways. Interviews and first-hand accounts are an asset in establishing a cause-effect relationship or exploring latent forces that led to a particular incident. The poignant first-hand accounts bring alive the tragic moments from the past and assist in placing different elements in perspective. The author has provided an excellent set of interviews from both sides and has analysed secret British fortnightly reports to cull in- depth information. The book would nevertheless have benefited by providing an in-depth analysis of interviews of British officials who were involved in the partition process at some point.
