Editorial This issue marks the first publication of our journal as The Australian Journal of Social Work. Forum was first produced in 1947, in roneoed form, for circulation among members of the Victorian Branch of the Association. Federal Council in 1950 recognised in Forum the nucleus of a national journal of professional social work, and backed its decision with some financial support. In approving the new title Federal Council has acknowledged a reasonable level of achievement, a policy implicit in the title, and, we should like to think, an unlimited potential. We hope that we have not been premature in our claim to be a national journal. Understandably, most of our material to date has originated in the two States with the largest membership. We are anxious, however, that it should not remain this way. It is the intention of the editorial committee that the journal should provide the opportunity for members to demonstrate the application of tech- niques and practice to conditions as they find they exist in their own work- ing environment, should encourage the expression of new ideas, publish reports and news on those subjects which will be of interest to the total membership, and, not the http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian Journal of Social Work Taylor & Francis
