Mulcahy Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana This Conference Issue comprises papers selected by the Scientific Committee from among those presented at the Conference on Social Theory, Politics & the Arts, October 18–20, 2012, at Louisiana State University. This journal is the official outlet of the STP&A Conference and dedicates one or two issues to its proceedings. At the start, it can be noted that the diversity of articles herein reflects the wide variety of interests that are found in the interdisciplinary research that typifies this field. The best graduate student paper award for the 2012 Conference went to Javier JoseH ´ ernandez- ´ Acosta for his study of the impact of cultural differences on cultural policy. The particular case studied is Puerto Rico, which presents an interesting area for such an analysis given its hybrid political and cultural status. As a commonwealth, Puerto Rico enjoys many of the social benefits of U.S. citizenship and Puerto Ricans are American citizens.
