Summary Jean J. Menier: Occurence of stridulatory organs in Platypodidae (Coleoptera.) The author describes for the first time what seems to be (compared with Curculionidae and Scolytidae) stridulatory organs in Platypodidae. These systems are of the elytro-abdominal type. The pars-stridens is located on the left elytron; it is linear, composed of striae (from 66 to 230). In all the species that have been studied, the right elytron never bears any trace of even a vestigial file. In most genera, both males and females have a pars-stridens. The plectrum is located on the 7th abdominal tergite. The occurence of these systems in the sub-families is briefly reviewed (except Platytarsilinae). The Diaporinae have, no stridulatory organs in either sex. In the genus Doliopygus (Platypodinae), the males have what looks like a degenerated file and no plectrum and the female have a short, but normal file. All the others species studied have in males and females, both a complete stridulatory apparatus. New insights on the phylogeny of genera can be expected using this character.
