From the Angus BAPTIST QUARTERLY https://doi.org/10.1080/0005576X.2023.2176808 NEWS The Angus Library holds over thirty different editions of John Bunyan’s great work, The Pilgrim’s Progress, ranging in publication date from the 1680s to the 1960s. Maybe it would surprise Bunyan to know that his book (divided into two parts, which were first published respectively in 1678 and 1684), would eventually be found in so many different forms. Amongst the copies held in the Angus, there is an ‘elegant edition’ of 1794, with ten plates of engravings, a ‘metrically condensed’ edition in six cantos from 1834 and a dramatised version of 1928. The Angus also holds editions written in Lushai, Bengali, Lingombe and Scottish Gaelic. In addition, we hold the second volume of a rare Korean edition, (the Bodleian Library holds the first volume.) This Korean translation, held in the archive of the BMS World Mission in the Angus, was printed in the late nineteenth century thanks to an ‘offering’ of £175.00 made by a Philadelphian Teachers’ Bible class taught by Arthur Tappan Pierson, to mark the 200th anniversary of Bunyan’s death.
