Summary The leafhoppers E. variegatus and A. bicinctus vectors of the clover phyllody show, when infected by this plant disease, cellular lesions in the midgut, the salivary glands, the aorta and dorsal vessel epithelial cells. These lesions are characterized by the occurence of cytoplasmic material containing ADN, ARN and proteins. These injuries are similar to those often found in another phyllody vector, E. plebejus infected in the same conditions. In the latter insect the occurence of lesions seems to be restricted to be multiplication and cycle transmission of the mycoplasma-like-bodies, which are suspected to be the phyllody agent. The same micro-organisms are probable implied in the lesions found in the leafhoppers E. variegatus and A. bicinctus.
