Summary There are 131 species of Scarabaeidae s. str., mostly coprophagous, at Lamto. It is possible to split them into grass savanna, tree savanna and forest communities, and each of these into guilds. The community richest in species and individuals is that of the grass savanna. Its rain season average biomass is 300 g per ha. Scarabaeidae abundance directly depends on rainfall. These insects play an important role by reincorporating large amounts of minerals into the ground. Their communities best fit log-linear or log-normal models and seem to function according to « s » type cenotic strategies.
