Abstract

Summary M. Descamps: The Nicarchi, dendrosclerophilous Ommatolampini of the neotropical forest [Acridomorpha, Ommatolampinae]. Nicarchi are sciaphilous Insects found on both live and dead, moss grown or non moss grown, standing or lying trunks. They may be recognized by their cryptic colouration, mimic of moss, lichen and bark, by their rough tegument, their protruding eyes and their short nodulous antennae. Pertaining to this group are: Nicarchus Stål 1878, Hypsipages Gerstaecker 1889, Aptoceras Bruner 1908, plus five new genera: Rhabdophilacris, Sclerophilacris, Bryophilacris, Acridocryptus and Sciaphilacris. Sciaphilacris differs from the other genera by some morphological criteria and by a different type of behaviour.
