Summary P. Jolivet & E. Petitpierre: Known Host-Plants of Chrysolina [Col. Chrysomelidae]. Trophic Selection Patterns. Among 75 species of Chrysolina from the Holarctis and the Paleotropics (i. e., 18.5% of the 400 recognized species), the following plant families are utilized: Labiatae; Compositae, Guttiferae, Umbelliferae, Scrophulariaceae, Plantaginaceae and Ranunculacae. Chrysochloa and Crosita, practically subgenera of Chrysolina, feed on Compositae. Calligrapha, a related new world genus, has a very wide spectrum of food selection. The genus Chrysolina seems to have originated as a labiophagous genus, but from this a complex feeding pattern has developed and efforts were undertaken here to explain the evolution of the feeding preferences and their link with cytology, distribution, plant taxonomy, migrations, etc. It seems that the sample of 18.5% may be considered representative of the whole genus, but some new plant families could presumably be detected in the future.
