Aphelinidae) and precision on its biological characteristics. A. cochereaui De Bach & Rosen (1976) is a new-caledonian endemic species that develops upon the purple scale (Lepidosaphes beckii Newmann) as a primary parasite. Biological data on the different phases of the development are covered in detail: average longevity of females is 8 days; suitable hosts for oviposition are ovipositing coccid females; adult parasites females feed on coccid males; average total oviposition is 5 eggs per Aphytis female; life cycle is 35 days; sex-ratio under laboratory conditions and in the field averages 49-50% females; reproduction is arrhenotokous. The conditions of biological control produced by A. cochereaui and A. lepidosaphes are compared.
