J. Tierney and S. H. Lovibond) In 1948, Dr. David R. Mace pUblished a book, ftMarriage Jounselling." The book represents the first published account of the British National Marriage Guidance Council of which Dr. Mace is secretary. The proposals in this book are now being used as a standard for the establishment of similar marriage gUidance councils in this country. (See Arti cl e "The Melbourne Marriage Guidanc e council," Forum, June 1'.149). In view of this fact, and because marital problems loom so largely in the social work field, it is appropriate that the pUblished work of this author should be care­ fully examined. It has not been possible to ascertain very much of Dr. Mace's background. The son of a clergyman, he is married with two child­ ren.
