Morphologie de la Larve Planidium d'Un Diptère Bombyliidae, Villa Brunnea

Morphologie de la Larve Planidium d'Un Diptère Bombyliidae, Villa Brunnea Summary P. Du Merle: Morphology of the planidium larva of Villa brunnea [Dipt. Bombyliidœ] The principal morphological peculiarities of the planidium of Villa brunnea Beck, are as follows: a) Body of 14 segments, from which 1 intermediate, presumably thoracic, segment, b) Thoracic segments with 1 pair of long setae; urites 2-6 with 1 pair of retractile pseudopods; urite 8 with 2 pairs of retractile pseudopods and 1 pair of spiracular tubercles (the larva is metapneustic); urite 9 with 1 pair of long setae and the anal orifice. c) The integument consists of 2 very unlike, superposed cuticles and shows numerous furrows, d) The labrum bears 6 denticles which constitute the « labral crest ». e) Very numerous external (setae, sense pores and papillae, « articular formations »; also, maybe, the « basiabdominal organ ») and internal (chordotonal organs) peripheric sense organs are present. f) The ventral nerve cord has only 7 abdominal ganglia, g) The mid-gut is filled with vitellin globules, h) Important modifications in the aspect of the mandibular glands have been noticed in the boring larva, i) The fat body consists of 1 thoracic fat mass and 3 pairs of longitudinal fat bands, the latter narrowly associated with the salivary glands and the malpighian tubules. Both the data of the literature and the author's observations lead us to believe that simple morphological characters should allow us to easily distinguish the Bombylid planidia at the generic and even, perhaps, the species-group level. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Annales de la Société entomologique de France (N S ) Taylor & Francis

Abstract

Summary P.
