Jen s Hol t was a n eminen t linguist, and master o f man y languages. Amon g th e Indo-Europea n languages Greek and Hittit e were the favoure d subjects of hi s universit y teaching, and h e attached a fundamental importance to his lectures „Introductor y linguistics", which he constantly revised in accordance with the latest results o f scholarship . H e wa s also wel l acquainte d with a numbe r o f languages outsid e the Indo-European group, especially Akkadian, Arabic, Finnish an d Turkish .
