Summary In New Caledonia, flowers of Rauwolfia schumanniana are galled by the larvae of a Gall midge. However the true cause of these alterations was left unknown by some Botanists for a long time. They even made an artificial genus Podochrosia to distinguish from Rauwolfia. In fact all the distorted flowers are changed into galls by larvae of a new species of Gall midge. This latter is named here Pseudasphondylia rauwolfiae, n. sp. This work gives a detailed description but biology, ethology and particularly egg laying behaviour are not yet known.
