SUMMARY The systematic position of the Parasitidae, among the monogynaspid gamasid mites, is briefly reviewed. Psilogamasus n. g. is doted with features or combinations of features which are, up till now, unknown in the Parasitidae. The existence of a trichocystic hair on the telotarsus IV seems to be unique inside the family. The genus Psilogamasus, at present monotypical, is defined. The generotype, Psilogamasus hurlbutti n. sp., is described. The new species comes out from soils of Morogoro (Tanzania).
