Summary On the basis of typical series and large other materials, the author discusses the validity of several spp in the genus Monosteira Costa. The following new synonymies are established : a. (Monosteira pardoi Wagner) nov. syn. = (M. ribesi Wagner) nov. syn. = (M. ribesi alni Wagner) nov. syn. = (M. buccata Horváth) nov. syn. = M. unicostata Mulsant & Rey; b. (Monosteira priesneri Wagner) nov. syn. = M. minutula Montandon; c. (Monosteira zizyphora Ghauri) nov. syn. = M. edeia Drake & Livingstone; d. (Monosteira karachiensis Hamid & Ali) nov. syn. = M. alticarinata Ghauri. In the same paper are described the last larval instar of Monosteira minutula, and the imagos of two new spp, Monosteira remanei, n. sp., from Iraq, and M. tuberculata, n. sp. from South Iran. Some lectotypes and paralectotypes are also designated in the course of the work. A key for identification of spp is finally given.
