Role des Œufs et des Voies Génitales dans le Comportement Maternel chez Labidura Riparia (Dermaptera)

Role des Œufs et des Voies Génitales dans le Comportement Maternel chez Labidura Riparia... Summary In Labidura riparia, the eggs' presence is an obligatory condition for a lasting and complete maintenance of the maternal behaviour and of the peculiar physiological state during this period. This female behaviour is induced by tactile as well as chimic sensoriel ways, involving the eggs' presence. Thus, the female is stimulated by superficial egg texture and by a communication substance which is secreted by the oviducts and deposited on the eggs during the egg-care period. The synergy of both these factors appears to be strictly necessary for the triggering and persistance of the egg-care behaviour. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Annales de la Société entomologique de France (N S ) Taylor & Francis

Abstract

Summary In Labidura riparia, the eggs' presence is an obligatory condition for a lasting and complete maintenance of the maternal behaviour and of the peculiar physiological state during this period. This female behaviour is induced by tactile as well as chimic sensoriel ways, involving the eggs' presence. Thus, the female is stimulated by superficial egg texture and by a communication substance which is secreted by the oviducts and deposited on the eggs during the egg-care period. The synergy of both these factors appears to be strictly necessary for the triggering and persistance of the egg-care behaviour.
