I think also that some of us sometimes wonder whether any great skill and Under- standing are required in these short contacts, part- icularly if the length and extent of the case are limited by external factors such as the need to refer the client to another agency rapidly, or by the nature of the request which may be for some emergency practical help. Actually a very great deal can be achieved in short contacts and is so very frequently. The client has received the answer to his full need or at least that aspect of his need which he wants met by the social worker.
