Simultaneous Determination of Methocarbamol and Ibuprofen in the Presence of Five Related Impurities by Reversed Phase Liquid Chromatography

Simultaneous Determination of Methocarbamol and Ibuprofen in the Presence of Five Related... AbstractMethocarbamol (MET) and ibuprofen (IBU) in combination are available in market by brand name Robax Platinum® which is a combined medication for the effective relief of pain associated with muscle spasm. But, the side effect or different pharmacological action of sodium methylparaben, 2-(4-isobutyrylphenyl)propionic acid (BOPA), 4-isobutylbenzoic acid and 4-isobutylacetophenone (IBAP) to IBU and the different pharmacological action of guaifenesin (GU) to MET have been reported. The target of this work was to develop and validate a simple, rapid, and accurate RP-HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of methocarbamol, ibuprofen and their related impurities. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a Symmetry® Waters C18 column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) with UV detection. Gradient elution was performed using (A) H3PO4 solution (pH3.0)-(B) acetonitrile as mobile phase (by varying mobile phase (A) from 80 to 60% (0-11 min), from 60 to 30% (11-12 min), from 30 to 15% (12-20 min), and then from 15 to 80% (20-21 min) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL /min). The optimized method validated and proved to be specific, robust, and accurate for the simultaneous analysis of methocarbamol and ibuprofen in the presence of five related impurities in their compound preparations. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Analytical Chemistry Letters Taylor & Francis
