Some remarks on mood and aspect in Russian
Abstract
Abstract This paper offers an account of aspect in imperative verb forms and in certain infinitive verb forms of Russian.1 Although the paper is concerned chiefly with Russian, it is of general theoretical interest on two counts. Firstly, it shows how aspect and mood may be interconnected, as opposed to the much discussed intertwining of tense and aspect. Secondly, it provides evidence that the distribution of some forms of Russian cannot be adequately explained without recourse to semantics.
