Speaking Personally - with Francisco Ibáñez-Carrasco

Speaking Personally - with Francisco Ibáñez-Carrasco AMERICAN JOURNAL OF DISTANCE EDUCATION https://doi.org/10.1080/08923647.2023.2198932 INTERVIEW a b Francisco Ibáñez-Carrasco and Michael Hoechsmann a b University of Toronto; Lakehead University Michael Hoechsmann (MH): Hi Francisco, I wonder if we might start with some thoughts on what it is like to teach online? Francisco Ibáñez-Carrasco (FIC): Teaching online is better than Botox; it keeps me young. I have complicated health, but I love being with younger people and online teaching and learning make me feel young. I repeat this line to myself now that I am getting older. To teach online, I have to be on my toes and not just because I have to constantly learn new tricks like some complicated new editing system. This is a wonderful way for me to be a professional, being in a constant state of learning and striving. I may never arrive at a point where I know it all, but rather I will always be incomplete, which keeps me hungry for more and moving forward. Often this means I have to improvise. I think to myself, what are we doing today? How are we mixing this online microphone with people in the classroom? I feel like I’m in an amazing state http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png American Journal of Distance Education Taylor & Francis
