More than 50% of the world’s human population resides in urban areas, and the editors note, “As biologists, resource managers, planners, and urban residents, we need to do our best to understand carnivores, cities, and how they interact, so that carnivores and urban dwellers can coexist as peacefully as possible” (p. 232). Overall, they succeed in providing an important resource for wildlife management professionals and academics. The authors of the first two chapters define the urban ecosystem, carnivore behavior and ecology, and their relationship to urbanization. The third chapter concerns conservation and management, with an emphasis on the human dimension of this work. These chapters introduce the nine chapters on research on urban carnivores: raccoons (Procyon lotor), kit http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Human Dimensions of Wildlife Taylor & Francis
