KRAAIJEVELD (**) (*) Laboratoire de Biologie et Génétique Evolutives du CNRS, 91198 Gif-sur-Yvette Cedex, France. (**) Rijksuniversiteit Leiden, Zoologisch Laboratorium, Kaiserstraat 63, Postbus 9516, 2300 RA Leiden, the Netherlands. The genus Zaprionus Coquillett, 1902 comprises two subgenera : Zaprionus s. str. (31 species) with a mainly african distribution, and Anaprionus Okada, 1990 (10 species) with an oriental and autralasian distribution. During the last twenty years a number of species of Zaprionus s. str. have been found outside Africa and the afrotropical isles. Following the recent discovery of Zaprio nus ghesquierei Collart, 1937 in Turkey and Cyprus we will summarize the published and no-published data on the geographical extension of three species (fig. 1) : - Zaprionus indianus Gupta, 1970. A common species all over Africa. The nomenclatural vicissitudes ofthis species have recently been reported on (Tsacas, 1985) ; here we will only men tion that this species has been known for years as Z. vittiger Coquillett, 1902 and since 1980 under the name of Z.
