All these changes are reflected in Norton and Buchanan’s edited volume The Routledge Handbook of Materials Development for Language Teaching. Served as the first handbook for the discipline of materials development, it is another masterpiece and a great companion to The Complete Guide to the Theory and Practice of Materials Development for Language Learning (Tomlinson & Masuhara, 2018). This is the first time in Applied Linguistics to explicitly propose the academic discipline of materials development as a way to challenge the notion of materials development as atheoretical undertaking for a long time (e.g., Harwood, 2010; Tomlinson, 2012).
