Museum management has taken a turn into a human-focused trend in the last few decades (Lord and Blankenberg 2015; Moore 1994). As noted by Yuha Jung, museum professionals are increasingly interested in valuing “networks and people-centered approaches rather than traditional hierarchies and object-centered practices” (2022, 17). In response to this shift, Jung presents a thorough publication that compiles her work on museum management and Open Systems Theory (OST) over the last decade. Her work proposes OST as a rel- evant strategy to understand museums not in isolation but as part of a larger environment that includes the museums’ communities and internal structures. She explores these issues by focusing on one museum as a case study, which she has investigated over time since 2011. Jung’s argument is based on the idea of mutual casualty, which she discusses drawing on Buddhist teachings and OST.
