Summary Comparative anatomy of aphidophagous and coecidophagous Coceinellids, and position of Exochomus quadripustulatus L. in one of these entomophagous groups. This study describes the anatomical and morphological structures of the alimentary canal, male and female reproductive organs, and the nervous system of several species of Coccinellids which belong either to the aphidophagous group (type S. undecimnotata), or to the coccidophagous group (type C. bipustulatus). E. quadripustulatus is likewise studied, but with the intention of defining its real place inside these two groups. The observed variations are in correlation with the behavioral biology of predation and reproduction. All of the anatomical characteristics of E. quadripustulatus place it in the coccidophagous group. However, it possesses some characteristics of the aphidophagous Coccinellids, and thus appears to be an « intermediate » species.
