Two Validated Chromatographic Methods for Estimation of (-)-Epicatechin in Plant Sample and Marketed Extract

Two Validated Chromatographic Methods for Estimation of (-)-Epicatechin in Plant Sample and... Abstract Two reproducible and simple chromatographic methods (HPLC and HPTLC) have been developed and validated for quantification of (-) - Epicatechin, a polyphenolic flavonoid from the plant Pterocarpus marsupium. The linearity was observed from 2 to 25 μg/ml with a correlation coefficient (r2) of 0.999 for HPLC method and for HPTLC from 200 to 1200 ng/spot with a correlation coefficient (r2) of 0.9911. For HPLC method the relative standard deviation was found to be 1.02 % for system precision and 0.899 % for linearity of method. For HPTLC method the relative standard deviation was found to be 1.59 % for system precision and 1.335 % for linearity of method. Dried plant sample and a marketed formulation were analyzed and found to contain 0.0442 % (w/w) of (-) Epicatechin in bark powder, 0.0593 % (w/w) in marketed sample by HPLC method and 0.0432 % (w/w) in bark powder, 0.0661 % (w/w) in marketed sample by HPTLC method. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Analytical Chemistry Letters Taylor & Francis
