Une Nouvelle Méthode de Marquage Pour les Blattes [Dict., Blattaria]

Une Nouvelle Méthode de Marquage Pour les Blattes [Dict., Blattaria] Summary The tetrameric regeneration of the tarsus of cockroaches is used as a labelling method, and tested in Periplaneta americana. The ablation is made at the beginning of first instar, the regrowth is achieved by the beginning of next instar; the label remains until adult stage. Reading the label does not requires immobilization of the animal. Observations are made at first and second instar, on groups of 4 males: one untouched, and 3 with a tarsus cut out, after hatching, from the front, median or hind leg. The rate of growth and social relations are not strongly disturbed by the labelling, which may be used to study population structure, or (associated with color marking) for long term behaviour studies on groups. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Annales de la Société entomologique de France (N S ) Taylor & Francis

Abstract

Summary The tetrameric regeneration of the tarsus of cockroaches is used as a labelling method, and tested in Periplaneta americana.
