University of Queensland—Courses in Social Work 32 FORUM COMMITTEE FOR POST-GRADUATE STUDY IN SOCIAL WORK In May, 1955, the N.S.W. Branch of the Australian Association of Social Workers approached the Department of Social Work at Sydney University for assistance in arranging a refresher course in case work for their members. From this original request evolved the idea of a permanent committee to ar- range for post-graduate study in the social work field, and a constitution was drawn up and the present committee formed. The Committee, which is an autonomous body, includes the Director and the Supervisor of Professional Training from the Department of Social Work, and six members of the Australian Association of Social Workers elected bien- nially. Soon after its formation the Committee arranged for a course of seminars in community organization to be given by Professor Twente, Chair- man of the Graduate Department of Social Work at the University of Kansas. Following this an address on psychiatric social work in Great Britain was given by Professor Trethowan, Professor of Psychiatry at Sydney University. The Committee is currently arranging two courses of seminars--one on "Social Work and Social Class," and one on group work the latter to be given by Miss I. Stewart, M.S.W. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian Journal of Social Work Taylor & Francis
