Dear Editor,-- May I express my gratitude to Mrs. Wheaton for her scholarly article on "Nature and Nurture" in the last number of "Forum," in which she took up one of the problems which I had raised in the previous issue, namely that of heredity. But I am still not satisfied. If you read her article carefully, it gives you much valuable information on "nurture," but where is the new know- ledge of "nature" which I am seeking ? Are we not playing "Hamlet" without the Prince of Denmark ? Besides, as easily happens in such controversy, Mrs. Wheaton accuses me of opinions which I have never held : I have always accepted and never denied the "multiplicity of interacting factors;" it would not occur to me to turn the clock back and defend an out-moded "one-sided determinism," like for in-
