URBAN STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION IN THE DEVELOPED REGIONS: CHANG JIANG DELTA CASE

URBAN STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION IN THE DEVELOPED REGIONS: CHANG JIANG DELTA CASE Abstract As the reform and Open-door Policy proceeds, the Chang Jiang Delta', one of the developed coastal areas in China, has demonstrated that the cities there are industrializing rapidly, the region is being urbanized, and the city and country are merging into an organic whole. In the recent twenty years, the economy of this delta has developed rapidly, and the regional infrastructure has been improved. The social, economic, cultural and technological relations among the cities have been reinforced. Urban growth has spread by the way of agglomeration or axis-pattern extension and the level of industrialization and modernization of the city has been heightened. Radical urban structural transformation has appeared, taking the forms of (1) that city and counties have merged into an organic whole owing to agglomeration; (2) reciprocal attraction and reciprocal dispersion of cities. This paper mainly studies the fundamental characteristics, dynamics, function variations and the trend of such urban structural transformation in the Chang Jiang Delta. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Asian Geographer Taylor & Francis
