What is occupational therapy? This is a question frequently asked of the seven or eight Occupational Therapists practicing in Melbourne, and we hope adequately answered by them. The following hospitals have one or more Occupational Therapists on their staffs; Royal Melbourne, Children's Hospital, Alfred Hospital, Repatriation Hospital Holdelberg, Mont Park Mental Hospital, Ministry of Poet-War Reconstruction, The Childrenls Welfare Department. Others are waiting to include this treatment for their patients when space and Occupational Therapists are available. Nevertheless, this is a new profession in Australia, and as auc~ must continue to arouse interest and require explenatlon for some time to come. The first training school for Occupational Therapy in Australia was set up in Sydney in 1942 and as a result the Occupational Therapy Department is a recognised part of the treatment scheme in most public hospitals in Sydney. A similar training school, capable of accommodating a maximum number of 30 students, opened in Melbourne last year.
