As one of the foremost presenters and producers of Asian theatre and performance in the United States, Rachel Cooperâs contributions to the field of Asian theatre cannot be overstated. From the founding of the Bay Areaâbased Gamelan Sekar Jaya to the âIn Performanceâ program of the Festival of Indonesia and as director for Global Performing Arts and Special Cultural Initiatives at the Asia Society in New York City, her work has made a significant impact on not only how Asian theatre and performance are viewed and contextualized in the United States but also in their local communities in Asia.
