Plattner Appalachian Heritage Awards to honor excellence in writing. Kenneth and Elissa May Plattner have donated funds for these awards to be given each year in memory of their son, Denny C. Plattner, who had a deep appreciation of writers and writing. The three awards will be given each year for the best short story, article or essay, and collection of poetry published in Appalachian Heritage during the preceding year. The award in each category will be two hundred dollars. Subscription Rate Increase Because of the increased costs of paper and printing supplies, Berea College feels the necessity of increasing Appalachian Heritage subscription rates this year.
