She parked the car, set out on foot to enjoy the beauty and fragrance of the forest, and discovered a homestead. As she explored the cabin, shefound more than antiquefurnishings. Shefound a mysterious hidden box and a spirit that called out to her. FIREWOOD FORGOTTEN, HALLIE SAT IN THE ROCKER with the cold metal box in her hands. Was this the hiding place for the family's valuables? The hinges squealed as she eased the lid open. On top of folded papers and letters was a military medal of some sort. There were several "V-mail" letters to a Mary Parker from Earl Parker. Putting them aside, she unfolded a paper.
