African zoos: partnering a necessary renaissance There are c. 200 zoos, or zoo‐type facilities, in 48 countries on the continent of Africa. These vary in standards from world‐class facilities to the world's worst examples of zoos. This diversity of operational standard is discussed and elements of the ensuing ethical issues associated with zoo operation in Africa scrutinized. Abstract

There are c. 200 zoos, or zoo‐type facilities, in 48 countries on the continent of Africa. These vary in standards from world‐class facilities to the world's worst examples of zoos.
