Developing an environmental‐education programme using Black rhinoceros Diceros bicornis in Zambia as a case study

Developing an environmental‐education programme using Black rhinoceros Diceros bicornis in Zambia... Environmental education is often recognized as a valuable conservation tool; however, programme managers can face many barriers that reduce the potential for success when implementing an environmental‐education programme. Case studies of environmental‐education programmes, from which other projects can learn lessons and use as an evidence base, can aid the development and implementation of future programmes and help managers overcome these barriers. This paper summarizes the development of ‘Lolesha Luangwa’, a Conservation Education Programme based in North Luangwa National Park in Zambia, and outlines the lessons learned from this case study. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Zoo Yearbook Wiley

Abstract

Environmental education is often recognized as a valuable conservation tool; however, programme managers can face many barriers that reduce the potential for success when implementing an environmental‐education programme. Case studies of environmental‐education programmes, from which other projects can learn lessons and use as an evidence base, can aid the development and implementation of future programmes and help managers overcome these barriers. This paper summarizes the development of ‘Lolesha Luangwa’, a Conservation Education Programme based in North Luangwa National Park in Zambia, and outlines the lessons learned from this case study.
