Educational graphics in the National Zoological Garden of South Africa, Pretoria L. At the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa in Pretoria we, in common with many other zoos, had suffered problems with labelling over a period of years. Accordingly, it was decided to design a series of labels which would link to our future educational graphics and would survive at least for a few years. The Division of Educational Services of the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa has at its disposal the services of two full-time artists on the permanent staff. This enables all artwork for new exhibits to be designed and prepared in close co-operation with the construction section, and the type and siting of the educational graphics can be decided on while the new enclosures are being built. This combined planning has ensured that the placing of labels and information panels is made to best effect.
