The total living registered refers to animals living at that date; additional figures in parentheses indicate animals whose whereabouts or other specifications are yet to be confirmed. It is not possible to list all relevant publications and those cited are in general the last available complete edition or update of the studbook, whether published or obtainable from the author. New studbooks or studbook keepers are indicated by an asterisk (*). Taxonomic arrangement and nomenclature of mammals follow Wilson II, D. E. & Reeder, D. M. (Eds) (1993): Mammal species of the world: a taxonomic and geographic reference (2nd edn). Washington, London: Smithsonian Institution Press. The 2007/08 edition of the ISIS/World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) Studbook and Husbandry Manual DVD includes 194 international and 1214 regional studbooks, and 214 husbandry manuals.
