It allows women to look for pornography without having to go to a video store and deal with sleazy looks or comments from the desk clerk and other clients. Women then have the freedom to explore their fantasies and others’ fantasies in the privacy of their computer screens. A woman can do this exploration by herself or it can be an interactive experience. Naked on the Internet describes how the worldwide net of information and telecommunication feels liberating and even therapeutic to many women. Very much like in journals, women can “blog” about their lives, dreams, and fantasies. The fact that others might access these thoughts and might even respond is acceptable and mostly welcomed. The unspeakable has now become speakable, the unconscious more or less conscious. However, the freedom provided by the Internet, as freedom in any other realm, has its consequences.
