NIGERIA: Tinubu Wins The opposition cry foul over alleged irregularities.Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared president‐elect following Nigeria's February 25th election.Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairperson Mahmood Yakubu said Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes of all ballots cast to emerge winner of the poll disputed by the opposition.“That Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Yakubu said in an address aired live on Channels TV.Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar came second with 6,984,520 votes while Labour Party's Peter Obi came third with 6,111,533 votes, according to INEC's final tally.Tinubu, 70, promised to tackle Nigeria's rampant insecurity and end ethnic and regional divisions. He has also pledged to fight corruption, reduce wasteful public expenditure and revive the economy. He will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari who has completed his two constitutional terms.Opposition parties on February 28th demanded that the presidential election be cancelled over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the poll and collation of results. But INEC defended its conduct of the poll and urged those aggrieved to seek redress in the courts.
