USA The Pacific Coral Reef exhibit at the Seattle Aquarium was opened in November 1985 after many years of extensive revisions to its design and construction. Originally planned during 1979 and 1980 the design was continually modified to accommodate a budget that, in retrospect, was too smaH to accomplish the desired goal. The compromises made during this process, combined with schedule limitations and critical construction decisions based on aesthetics rather than function. resulted in a number of basic faults which prevented the main element of the exhibit complex, the Pacific Coral Reef tank, from holding water successfully.
